'T&R would need to write us a big cheque'

MILLIONS of pounds will need to be ploughed into school buildings if a high school is shut, the Education minister has warned.

As the fallout from the States vote to close an as yet to be decided one of the island's secondary schools descended over the weekend, Deputy Robert Sillars said Treasury and Resources would have to present a sizeable cheque for developing the Education estate to cope with extra numbers across all its sites.

These changes would take years to plan and come to fruition, he added, and were not without serious complications.
