After the school received a glowing report – in stark contrast to one in 2012, which found it sub-standard in many areas – Vicky Godley said it had undergone a radical change, discovered its confidence and instilled in those who learn and work there a sense of pride which has bled through into all aspects of the school.

'They are now proud to be La Mare students,' she said.

'When I came here five years ago, I came into disarray, through no one particular fault, it was lots of different factors, not just one thing.

'The culture needed to change and I went for the head teacher position because of a belief in the students and the staff.

'I can tell you that the staff value their time with the students, and we find out what is best practice and then cascade that across the school.'
