HSSD chief will answer questions on Lyons case

HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES chief officer Dr Carol Tozer will answer questions 'in the near future' over the department's much-criticised handling of the case surrounding Alderney GP Dr Rory Lyons.

The department has said that Dr Tozer would be available for media interviews and was willing to address the issues surrounding the independent review, which was published a month ago.

The critical review, carried out by the Good Governance Institute, raises a catalogue of concerns about how the case, which centred around concerns over four patient deaths, was handled by the department, including scrutiny of leadership at HSSD.

Dr Lyons was cleared of any wrongdoing after the police inquiry that followed.

There is a public meeting in Alderney on Wednesday next week addressing the HSSD/States of Guernsey response to the GGI recommendations.

The GGI were critical of several senior figures at HSSD who were directly involved in the case and the role of the political board.
