Petit Train to take a scenic tour of Town's attractions

THE Petit Train will be giving tourists a different view of St Peter Port this summer.

The three-carriage, road-going articulated vehicle, which has come from France, arrived in the island yesterday morning before undertaking a trial along its intended route.

After passing the trial and getting its necessary approvals, the vehicle is set to be in service by the end of May.

The vehicle has been bought by Petit Train Guernsey – a new local family business operated by stepmother and daughter Julie Alderton and Laura Bean.

At a price of £5 for adults and £3 for children, the journey on the train will take 35 minutes.

The tours will start after the morning rush hour, ending before 5pm.

Ms Bean believed the attraction would improve and enhance the visitor experience.

'It will be good for tourism, good for Town and good for Guernsey,' she said.

'The train will follow a scenic route rather than operating a transport service and we hope that it will whet the appetite of visitors to explore the Town's attractions further.'

Visit Guernsey marketing manager Wendy Pedder said the route had been designed with deviations so that it did not cause too much traffic disruption.

'We think that anything that is going to enhance the visitor experience is amazing,' she said.
