Eilis Rock, who is from Ireland, has been nominated for the Ravenscroft-sponsored award by Vicki Le Poidevin.

When Mrs Le Poidevin went into labour at 29 weeks gestation in August 2014, Miss Rock, who was on duty at the time, delivered her son in a safe and caring manner.

She even stayed past her shift to make sure everything was all right and that the baby boy, named Troy Carter, was OK.

'She is a truly special person due to the fact she watched over my son while he was in NICU and is still in our life to this day,' said Mrs Le Poidevin.

'To my husband and I, Eilis saved our son's life, along with the team in NICU, with her professional approach and sensitivity to the fact my son was arriving so early.'

Miss Rock has been a midwife for seven-and-a-half years and has been in Guernsey for six.

'She really is an angel and deserves this award so much,' added Mrs Le Poidevin.
