'I owe my Pride of Guernsey Angel of the Year Debbie my life'

A L'AUMONE SURGERY patient who says she owes one nurse her life after treatment she received for her legs, has nominated nurse Debbie Duquemin for the Pride Of Guernsey Angel of the Year Award, sponsored by Ravenscroft.

Janet Grogan, 73, said that without Mrs Duquemin's support, she would have lost her legs.

'In the last two years I was 16 stone 7lb. She put me on a diet and I'm now 10 stone 5lb.

'I walk everywhere and I have a different life, like a new person.

'I hope she is lucky. She is the most wonderful nurse.'

After coming out of hospital in 2010, Mrs Grogan said, both her lower legs were in a 'terrible mess'.

She had been told that she might lose them due to the ulcers but with Mrs Duquemin's determination, hard work and nursing care, both her lower legs are now healed.

'Debbie worked so hard and after months of visits to the surgery and at times having to go to surgery daily for treatment, which was so painful, she was always there for me.

'She always took her time and washed each leg separately to prevent further infection developing and dressed each leg appropriately.

'I am so lucky to have my legs as they were so bad.'

Because Mrs Grogan still has an ongoing problem, she still visits the surgery weekly.

'I owe Debbie my life and I would like to thank her for all that she has done and continues to do for me.'

* The nomination period for all 12 Pride of Guernsey Awards remains open until 30 June. Forms appear in paper or visit our dedicated sister website www.prideofguernsey.com/nominate
