Brewery site rubble set to form data park foundations

CRUSHED rubble from the former Guernsey Brewery at Havelet could be used for the foundations of the Guernsey Data Park, according to a planning application.

People living near the data park site between Braye Road and Saltpans have been assured that crushing will be undertaken only on weekdays and efforts will be made to suppress the dust.

Development company Long Port announced five years ago that it planned to create units, which would be used for storing and recovering data.

But while the glasshouses have been cleared, and a junction, with traffic lights, was installed on Route Militaire, the large site has stood empty since then.

The latest planning application asks that R. G. Falla be allowed to bring in stone and building rubble from the former brewery site, where work is under way to build new flats.

'R. G. Falla proposes to transport a mixture of excavated rock and the clean demolition material from the brewery site to an agreed stockpile location on the Guernsey Data Park site,' Long Port director Mark Ogier said in the application.

'The material will then be crushed on site using a dedicated crushing machine, with suitable dust suppression, and which will only be on site during the crushing process.'

Mr Ogier said the material would be stored on site for use in the infrastructure and buildings works for the data park.
