ONE of the centrepiece gardens of this year's Chelsea Flower Show will be re-created in its entirety in Guernsey.

The Royal Bank of Canada's stunning exhibit, on Chelsea's prestigious Main Avenue, was admired last evening by members of the Royal Family, including the Queen, who paid their annual visit to the world-famous flower show.

The garden has been given to Les Cotils.

When the Chelsea Show finishes at the end of this week, it will be dismantled piece by piece and brought over to the island in seven articulated lorries.

It will then be re-assembled in front of Les Cotils tea rooms, where it will form the grand finale to a floral walkway.

According to the designer, Chelsea gold-medallist Hugo Bugg, the garden draws inspiration from the Mediterranean pine habitat of Jordan and celebrates water.

'Water is a sacred element and is to be treated with respect and cherished,' he said, as Chelsea's VIP visitors were being given a preview of the show before today's opening to the public.

The design of the garden itself partly reflects this year's Chelsea trend towards bold statements with rock and stone constructions.

Stone mounds and geometric shapes are surrounded by plants ranging from strawberry trees and Jordan Scotch thistles to Jerusalem sage and black iris.
