Appearing in the Royal Court, Zane Miskimmin, 25, was also sentenced to three months' imprisonment, running concurrently, for a separate charge of assaulting a different woman, earlier that same evening.

The father of three had pleaded guilty to both offences.

Judge Russell Finch said it was necessary to protect women from the defendant's predatory actions and the attack could have gone further if a passer-by had not come to the alleyway.

Judge Finch said everyone, regardless of their gender, should be able to walk the streets of Guernsey, safe and sound, without being victim to attack.

Crown Advocate Chris Dunford said the victim of the indecent assault had been out for a meal and a couple of drinks with work colleagues on 16 October and was walking in the Arcade when the attack occurred, just after midnight.

Advocate Dunford read from the victim's statement, in which she described how Miskimmin dragged her down an alleyway, violently attacked her and indecently assaulted her.

The victim shouted and screamed, before someone appeared and the defendant ran off.
