Wedding anniversary return easier with new Aurigny route

A COUPLE who return to Guernsey annually to celebrate their wedding anniversary are delighted the journey has become easier with the Aurigny link with Leeds Bradford.

On Friday the airline flew its inaugural service from the Yorkshire airport.

John and Anne North, both 71, were on the flight and said how useful it was to fly from Leeds Bradford as it is closer to their home – about a 20-minute drive.

Before this they had to travel from Manchester, which took about 90 minutes for them to get to the airport.

'I live in Ilkley, which is only a few miles from Leeds Bradford Airport, so I'm thrilled that Aurigny is beginning this new route,' Mr North said.

'It's going to make my trips to Guernsey so much easier.'

Mr North's mother Doreen was an evacuee who left Guernsey in June 1940, just before the Occupation.

She met her husband-to-be Douglas North in Yorkshire while working for his firm. They married, and John was born in late 1944.

He has been coming back to Guernsey to visit relatives every year since 1945.
