Pride of Guernsey: 'We could do with many Frans in the health service'

WHEN Andrea Guilbert's son was having fits twice a week, there was one point of contact at the Medical Specialist Group who went above and beyond to help the family.

Fran Elliott, who has been a paediatric specialist personal assistant for 17 years, has been nominated for our Pride of Guernsey Angel of the Year Award for the time she spent explaining the process to Mrs Guilbert and chasing follow-up appointments.

Mrs Guilbert said her now four-year-old son, Maximillian, was having twice-weekly fits last year and she felt it was taking a long time to get him appointments and a diagnosis.

'I was very upset and really couldn't understand why the system was so slow,' she said.

'I heard of Fran, who works at MSG, and contacted her.

'She explained everything and gave me support, contacted me on almost a daily basis to see how things were going and to chase the matter herself.

'I feel that she went the extra mile when she took the matter into her hands, as if it was personal.

'We could do with many Frans in the health service.'

The Angel of the Year Award, sponsored by Ravenscroft, is for nurses, doctors and health workers, who are the heartbeat of our community, having dedicated their careers to looking after not only our wellbeing but in many cases saving lives.

The nomination period for all 12 Pride of Guernsey Awards remains open until 30 June. Forms appear in paper or visit our dedicated sister website www.prideofguernsey.com/nominate
