Flower power theme for Sark's scarecrow trail

A FLOWER POWER-THEMED scarecrow trail is proving popular in Sark, with a special competition being held this week.

The competition, which runs until Sunday, features questions at each of the scarecrows on the route and organisers have described it as perfect for family, adults or anyone who enjoys walking with a purpose on the scenic island.

It is not the first time scarecrows have greeted residents and visitors to Sark and last summer saw 40 in the HSBC Bank garden.

These represented Sark's original tenants who settled with Helier de Carteret in 1565 and were part of Sark's 450th celebrations of its Royal Charter.

For many years Sark's Carnival Committee has also organised a scarecrow competition on a particular theme to provide an entertaining trail for families looking for a bit of fun and an activity for during school half-term.

This year, the competition is being run and the trail organised by Sark Community Blooms, a group whose main purpose is to improve the environment through community action and to enter the Floral Guernsey Community Competition.
