Smoking ban: Health says that 'plenty of warning' being given

PLENTY of warning has been given to help hospital staff who smoke cope with the impending ban, those behind the move have said.

From October, Health & Social Care and education sites will be completely smoke-free.

Peter Leigh, landlord of the Hampshire Lodge Hotel, who campaigned against the prohibitions placed on public smoking in 2006, warned that the removal of specified smoking zones would probably force people to smoke in their cars.

'In the end, heavy smokers will find a way to smoke,' he said.

'For doctors and nurses who already have very stressful jobs and who smoke, where are they going to go?'

Medical officer of health Dr Stephen Bridgman, pictured, has acknowledged the difference this would make to staff at these facilities and said that was why plenty of warning was being given.
