Post set to scrap more bike rounds

POSTIES on bikes will become an increasingly rare sight after Guernsey Post confirmed plans to cut more bicycle deliveries this summer.

There are around 70 delivery rounds and previously only about 10 of these runs were done by vans.

Last summer Guernsey Post announced plans to aspire to have 75% of deliveries done by vans instead.

Guernsey Post chief executive Boley Smillie said the change was going well, with around 45 rounds now undertaken by vans. More will change over the summer.

'We've converted 13 bikes to van rounds so far and we probably have around 28 bike rounds,' he said. 'We will probably end up with about eight bike rounds.'

The move has all been about the change in the type of mail the company delivers.

'It is more parcel based and there are far less letters,' Mr Smillie said.
