However, Mr Pascoe, who founded Goal50, which supports children in South Africa, said he still wanted England to win the game.

Mr Pascoe got to know Icelandic defender Kari Arnason – known as Arni – when the footballer was playing for Plymouth Argyle between 2009 and 2011.

When he was visiting Plymouth for football matches, Mr Pascoe would often meet Arni for a meal after the game.

Despite the friendship, Mr Pascoe said he still did not want to see Iceland beat England.

'It's great to see Iceland – and Arni – get this far, but I'm an Englishman and I hope we win the game,' he said.

'Arni is a great guy and I wish him well. He is very good centre back, but I think England's forwards will be too quick for him and his teammates.'

The Iceland vs England match kicks off at 8pm and is live on ITV One.
