ABOUT 70 people attended a meeting in the Sunken Gardens yesterday to protest against plans to move the war memorial there and create a piazza.

Several made speeches while others chose just to question those who spoke.

Some said that the proposal would eventually result in a car park being built underneath the piazza while others questioned who the 'faceless individuals' on the St Paul's Regeneration Committee were.

Architect Andrew Ozanne told the meeting that he had drawn up the plans free of charge. Plans to put parking there had been ruled out by the previous Environment Department and were no longer part of the scheme.

'If you distrust the system that's fine, but don't distrust me,' he said.
