One of the many fitting and touching tributes came from close friend Deputy Barry Paint, who joined other States members in sharing amusing anecdotes about his friend Deputy Jones and the times they shared.

'He was one of my very best friends in the whole island, let alone the States,' he said.

The Bailiff Sir Richard Collas had led the tributes to Deputy Jones at the specially-convened meeting of the States, before deputies took to their feet in their numbers to pay their respects.

Sir Richard spoke of a special person who made an enormous contribution to the States and always worked for the best interest of the island.

He said the late Deputy Jones was above all a man of 'great integrity' with no hidden agendas.
