Harry Bisson called for an ambulance and helped keep his grandfather – who suffered a seizure – in the recovery position while helping his mum deal with the situation.

St John nominated Harry for the Young First Aider of the Year Awards.

The Forest Primary School Year 5 pupil was part of the St John Student First Aid programme, where those in Years 3, 4 and 5 learn vital skills including resuscitation, putting a patient into the recovery position and basic first aid.

The incident occurred during a visit to the family's home in Yorkshire where Harry, mum Jocelyn, and his younger sister and brother were staying for the weekend to visit his grandparents.

While sitting with his grandchildren, Julian Smith suffered a seizure and obstructed airway, requiring immediate attention.

The Student First Aid programme, sponsored by Specsavers, takes place in primary schools across the Bailiwick.
