New employment trust premises just the job

GUERNSEY EMPLOYMENT TRUST has had an excellent start to the year after moving to new premises, with a surge in people finding work.

As part of the Disability and Inclusion Strategy, the Supported Employment Service, known as Interwork Services, was transferred from the then Health and Social Services Department to the trust as of 1 May 2015.

The previous premises were deemed unsuitable and a new location ones was found at The Fort Complex, L'Islet.

Between October last year and January this year, work was undertaken to upgrade the premises in order to make them suitable for people with disabilities.

GetThe trust's chief executive, Michael Evans, said it had achieved phenomenal success in the early part of the year.

'It used to be that over the course of the year, there would be around 18 people we found jobs for. But in the first six months of this year, we have found 44 people jobs.

'I think that is down to a number of factors; we have better facilities where people are happy to come to.'
