June bus passenger figures show 4.81% increase over last year

THE first phase of the bus replacement programme has nearly been finalised, Traffic and Highway Services has said.

This will see 12 direct replacement buses, two minibuses and the refurbishment of up to 27 existing vehicles.

Phase one is estimated to cost £1.84m. and the full project estimate stood at £6.75m. in October last year.

Phase two and three of the replacement scheme would see the renewal of the remaining buses by 2020.

A spokeswoman confirmed the news as June passenger figures showed a 4.81% increase compared with the same month last year, to 165,453 people.
