The international banking group, which has operated in Guernsey for 15 years, said a 'phased approach' would be taken to redundancies, as it looks to centralise its trust business in Singapore.

The office, which has 50 permanent staff, will be shut during the course of the next year, but Standard Chartered said it would be working with employees to identify the 'best solution for them', including opportunities to relocate.

Assurances have also been given from the States that the finance industry as a whole is stable, reflecting a positive outlook and growth in numerous sectors.
