FORCED closure of dangerous science labs at La Mare de Carteret High School reinforces the overwhelming case to rebuild the schools, a former Education board member has said.

Chris Green, pictured, labelled the latest setback 'disappointing and regrettable'.

He and fellow Education board members pushed for the redevelopment of La Mare in the last States.

Deputy Green said he had not been aware of safety concerns ever being expressed over the science labs, but the case for rebuilding the dilapidated school was only highlighted further.

The Health and Safety Executive revealed that risk of 'serious personal injury' led to the closure of the labs and that its inspection of the premises was sparked by an independent complaint.

'I was disappointed really that it had been allowed to get to that state and I just felt it was very regrettable,' said Deputy Green.
