Alderney Shipping treated 12 islanders to a trip to Guernsey on Wednesday, trialling a catamaran vessel that they are considering chartering for the business venture.

Alderney States members were taken on a short trip out to Mannez Lighthouse and back later in the day.

The Gardian, pictured, which was previously used to service wind farms, can carry 41 people – more in summer on seating outdoors – and travelled to Guernsey at a speed of 22 knots. The journey took 55 minutes.

Policy and Finance Committee chairman Robert McDowall, who was on the trip to the lighthouse, said Alderney Shipping was looking to 'do a deal' with the island's States.
