The new designs would see the demolition of the forecourt shop and it being rebuilt bigger, the addition of a new jet wash bay and a general refurbishment of the on-site facilities.

Owners Falles Properties' previous planning permission for the site upgrades had recently expired.

Chairman Helier Falle was pleased their designs had been re-approved.

'The garage has kind of outgrown itself – it is a small shop in a big area – and this is an opportunity to extend our retail offering and build the shop on a bigger footprint,' he said.

The Jersey-based company has owned the Vale Garage since 1969.

Mr Falle said they wanted to make full use of the service station's potential.

'We want to have a bigger premises and be able to offer more goods,' he said.

'We felt we could do a bit more to modernise our offering and have a bigger retail presence.'
