The committee will be taking over accident and emergency services from the Primary Care Company Limited at the end of the month, following which it will be known as the Emergency Department.

GPs had previously signalled their desire to still be involved in future staffing.

But in a statement released this morning, the committee said in order to prepare for transition, it had recruited 'a number' of associate specialists to staff the department and strengthen service resilience.

The specialists will work alongside the current team, including a consultant, who will continue to assist members of the public as well as supporting new colleagues in getting to grips with the format of Guernsey's private medical services.
