Leasing smaller buses 'a vote of confidence for narrower vehicles'

A SHORT-TERM lease of two Mercedes Sprinters has been described by a local bus users group as 'a vote of confidence' in the need for narrower buses in the island.

Environment & Infrastructure has leased two Mercedes Sprinters to help support the scheduled bus service for six months while maintenance work is carried out on some of the current fleet.

With passenger figures up 7.54% on this time last year, additional resources were required to keep up with the growing demand.

Fergus Dunlop, coordinator of Bus Users Guernsey, felt the temporary recruitment of two Mercedes Sprinters was in line with the need for narrower buses on the island.

'I was pleasantly surprised when I found out. It is a vote of confidence by Environment in that size of bus,' he said.
