Condor overpriced and unreliable – survey

CONDOR has been branded as unreliable and overpriced by passengers in a survey of more than 1,200 people.

Four out of 10 respondents to the Guernsey Condor Consumer Group survey said they would be happy for taxpayers' money to be used to subsidise a better service.

The survey, carried out by islanders who formed a Facebook group due to concerns with the service since the introduction of Liberation, was released on the same day as the company's flagship suffered another technical fault, this time with its fuel system, causing it to run on reduced power, disrupting sailings.

Day trips were cancelled and passengers going from Poole to Guernsey had to spend seven hours aboard the vessel, as she called at Jersey first.

The results also coincided with a spat between Economic Development and Policy & Resources, after the latter met the ferry company, despite Economic Development saying travel came under its remit.

Those behind the Condor Liberation and Condor Ferries – Good and Bad Facebook group have formed the consumer group.

Group chairman Jonah Lloyd, one of the organisers of a North Beach protest against Condor's service in March, organised the survey.

Vice-chairwoman Anita Kilby said the ferry service was not good enough.

'Arrive when it says it's going to arrive and leave when it says it's going to leave. I don't think any of that is rocket science.'
