CALLS are being made for new direct flights to Europe after Aurigny's Barcelona summer service proved popular in its first year.

Mandy Eulenkamp, vice-chairman of the Association of Guernsey Travel Agents, was among those who would welcome a greater choice of destinations available to islanders.

Blue Islands has said it will continue to evaluate opportunities and has submitted a licence application to operate a service between Guernsey and Cardiff.

Mrs Eulenkamp said she had received mixed feedback about the Saturday evening Barcelona service, with some saying it was expensive.

She also said it was suggested to Aurigny that if the timings were better, passengers could connect with cruise ships.

However she appreciated that it would depend on whether the slots and the aircraft were available.
