No charge for recycling your used batteries at Co-op stores

BATTERY recycling will become easier as the States tries to expand a new initiative.

The Channel Islands Co-operative Society has sponsored two new drop-off points at its larger St Martin's and St Sampson's Grande Marche stores, where customers can deposit their old batteries free of charge.

It is a joint collaboration with States Trading Assets, which is responsible for household recycling provision and wants to extend the battery initiative to other businesses, not just retailers.

Recycling and waste prevention officer Tina Norman-Ross said there were an estimated 750,000 batteries sold in the island every year.
