Deputy Laurie Queripel led the amendment to make the States Trading Supervisory Board, in consultation with Economic Development, identify a suitable area consisting of at least four acres either owned by the States or with occupation controlled by it.

An example of such a site is the Belgrave Vinery, site or part of it, that site, which is currently listed as a housing target area.

The proposals came during debate on the proposed Island Development Plan, which has yet to finish and will resume on 2 November.

Deputy Laurie Queripel said he felt the light industry sector in the past had been undervalued, misunderstood and often dismissed.

He urged the States to help support this investigation work and look to help provide some certainty for the light industrial businesses, not only so they could continue but could look to expand.

He said it was an industry that contributed to the economy and brought new money into the island.
