Lord's Taverners award for Maya
GUERNSEY's teenage football star Maya Le Tissier has been awarded the Young Female Sports Person of the Year Award at a star-studded Lord's Taverners Sporting Chance Awards.
The 14-year-old, who is currently training at an England under-15s camp, picked up the award at the ceremony, held at London's Guildhall on Friday evening, for being an excellent role model and for raising awareness of the sport.
Her father, Darren Le Tissier, said he was very proud of Maya, and how she could help to inspire other girls and ladies, not just in football, but in any interest they worked hard at and were trying to pursue.
'If you put you mind and heart into something – anything you choose to do,' he said.
'It is not just about football. In any walk of life, hard work and a bit of luck can pay off.'
