Hundreds of one-off items and presents which hark back to a bygone era, along with sweets measured out using weights, are for sale.

Robin Whicker, who volunteers in the shop, said it was always very popular, and his favourite thing was the array of 'interesting and unusual books'.

'We have a range of handbags which are made in Guernsey, some knitted tea cosies, some toys that we have not had before. We have china to books, collectors' items and homeware, much of which you would not find elsewhere.'

Lady Corder, wife of Lt-Governor Vice-Admiral Sir Ian Corder, was the special guest to open the shop and she immediately snapped up some sweets. It was a great place to find a present, she said.
