Shops and shoppers welcome parking break

EASING regulation of car parking over the festive period should help give Town a happier Christmas, retailers and shoppers have said.

Time limits are set to be abolished for many spaces in Town during certain periods, with the unprecedented decision recently announced by Traffic & Highway Services in response to a request from the Town Centre Partnership.

The Crown Pier, Albert Pier and the three-hour spaces at North Beach will be deregulated on Saturdays for the rest of the month. In total some 600 spaces will now be free of a time limit.

And until 4 January, weekday regulations are also being relaxed, with parking enforcement starting two hours later than usual at 10am, to, 'allow a little extra time for people who may have been out socialising to move their vehicle the following morning.'

All two-hour spaces at the same car parks will become three-hour spaces.
