Education defiant despite threat of no confidence vote

A VOTE of no confidence is now expected in the Education, Sport & Culture committee after it released a defiant but defensive statement.

The next few days are seen as crucial.

Conscious that a quick resolution is needed on the future of the political membership, and in particular the position of president Deputy Paul Le Pelley, a meeting took place yesterday among those wanting change.

That mood was strengthened when Education released its statement in the middle of its routine morning board meeting.

It dashed hope that one or more of the committee would resign, to trigger a fresh and quick vote on its membership and avoid what would be a divisive no confidence debate.

Several deputies, including senior members, have told the board that they should resign.
