This does need some regulation as this has been going on for years. This is an area that has been used by quite a few and from all levels of our society so don’t expect much to be done to sort this problem.

Some people moan that companies here are expensive or workmanship not good. Yes this can be true. There are reasonably priced local companies and there are also some who may do shoddy work and charge the earth but you get that anywhere just look at the programs you see on television about cowboy firms in the UK!

I know a few cases where outside companies and labour, from all over Europe, have been used only then to get local companies in to sort out the shoddy workmanship. As mentioned on a previous article a number of large projects done locally by outside contractors have had major problems with workmanship that needed rectifying but often this sort of information is kept from the public especially when government projects are involved. As for myself I live here, use only local companies and would not think of bringing in from outside unless I really had to. You sometimes have to shop around or often word of mouth of who are good and those who are not.

This island is an expensive place to live so what can you expect about costs over here? I don’t like paying out large sums of money like anyone else! What do you think doctors and dentists charge and let’s not forget the cost of legal fees which are hundreds of pounds an hour and there are many other professions charging large hourly rates. Don’t forget many in the finance industry are earning vast amounts as well, plus those in a financial positon to take advantage of the tax situation? This all adds up to a very expensive place to live.

I don’t see much being done about this as let’s say there is too much “involvement” in this area.

Geoff

Yes not much will be done as one of the biggest culprits is our very own states along with the trading bodies

How many more consultants are needed to decide we need more consultants

Don Tramp

What about Blue Van Drivers then ??

Biscay

I always thought Ronez would keep out of this Steve since you benefit so much

I'll go Norman Piette from now on only use ronez when I have to.

Hope Ronezs charge you more when you come back. Blackmail does not work, especially for imports.

Biscay

gorvel is a name I've heard of in the U.K. Doesn't sound like a guernsey name

Apologies if I'm wrong.

Oddly enough I was chatting with his mother the other day about the war years in Guernsey and the many years before. Her father bought a house in the early 40's here so definitely have local history.
