Health reports an 'incredible' £700k saving for last year
STRONGER financial controls, reporting, challenge and ownership across Health & Social Care has resulted in a £700,000 budget underspend.
As of May the committee, which historically has struggled to keep its finances under control, was predicted to overspend by £4.5m to £7.9m.
But Heidi Soulsby, president of H&SC, was yesterday pleased to report of the 'incredible achievement' as she gave the States a quarterly update.
'The truth is, we didn't think we would either earlier in the year and requested the funding to cover the overspend at the time.
'However, the year-end out-turn means that Health & Social Care has effectively made £1.45m.-worth of savings in 2016.'
Deputy Soulsby said it had not been achieved by cuts, but showed the development of leadership at all levels and teamwork across the organisation.
