New bird hide has improved facilities

CONSERVATION volunteers in Alderney have been hard at work erecting a new bird hide at the island's nature reserve.

The hide is being built on Longis Nature Reserve and overlooks Longis Pond, which attracts a rich diversity of bird life.

The new facility is being funded by nature tour company Naturetrek, which for the past two years has brought birdwatching groups for holidays to Alderney.

It's now a month into its creation and volunteers have been hard at work waterproofing the new panels and preparing its new footprint.

The new hide has improved facilities inside for bird watching and better access for visitors with restricted mobility.

Alderney Wildlife Trust people and wildlife officer Claire Thorpe said they were pleased by the progress of construction.
