Elizabeth Joseph, who worked in the island from June 2015 to August of that year 2015, is to be struck off after being found guilty of misconduct by a Nursing and Midwifery Council conduct and competence committee panel.

She Miss Joseph had got a friend to lie on the phone to Guernsey's head of midwifery to confirm she had worked for Colchester Hospital, when she had not.

The panel found that Miss Joseph's fitness to practise was impaired and a striking-off order was the most appropriate sanction to take.

An outstanding investigation was also taking place into her work following an incident at Southend Hospital – where she had worked previously.

'The panel concluded that Miss Joseph has acted so as to put women, babies, colleagues and others at unwarranted risk of harm and there is no assurance that this would not be a risk going forward,' it said in its decision notice.

'The panel concluded that Miss Joseph's misconduct brought the midwifery profession into disrepute and that she is likely to do so in the future.'
