Thousands of passengers were affected by the weather disruption, which is forecast to continue this morning.

Condor Ferries saw a rise of almost 1,000 passengers as people made alternative arrangements.

Last night's ferry was close to capacity and today's Poole sailing is almost full.

Aurigny commercial director Malcolm Coupar estimated 2,000 Aurigny passengers had been affected.

'I think in reality half of those passengers are ones who have already been disrupted and had been moved on to later flights.

'We hope to get some flights through tomorrow afternoon,' he said yesterday. 'In the meantime, we have tried to get as many people as possible in hotels or on boats so that we can try and clear the backlog a little.'
