Measures taken this year to accommodate passengers will be the same as last year those operated in 2016, Traffic and Highway Services has said.

While the alternative parking arrangements are in place, there will be a total of 46 fewer car parking spaces available in Town on each of the 69 days when larger cruise ships are scheduled to visit on a Monday to Saturday between 21 April and 8 October.

There will be six fewer spaces fewer on the 10 days when smaller ships are due to visit.

'On non-cruise ship days, of which there are currently 88 days on a Monday to Saturday, there will actually be an extra 25 car parking spaces available in Town as compared to the current numbers,' said a spokesman.

The cruise ship season begins on Tuesday 21st March with the arrival of the 1,266-capacity Aidavita.

This is followed with cruise ship visits on 9 and 16 April and then regular arrivals from 21 April through until 8 October.

Around 130,000 cruise visitors are expected to come ashore this year with 111 visits scheduled, which compares with 100 last season.
