The new fleet of buses that is set to come this year will be fitted with the talking system, to pass information to passengers verbally.

The vehicles, which the States has purchased, are already fitted with the technology to allow a sat-nav-style voice-over, so CT Plus have recorded a human voice-over to apply to the system.

In total, 246 separate lines were recorded by Jonathan Guilbert, the senior passenger transport officer at Environment & Infrastructure. These include some Guernsey French, which will bookend people's journeys on the buses.

Operations manager at CT Plus, Lee Murphy, said human voice was the way they wanted to go, to ensure they could pronounce the Guernsey names as accurately as possible and tailor it to exactly what they wanted.

'It has always been an aspiration to improve the technology, especially for some with special needs,' he said.

'There are 246 elements to be recorded, which will include key stops, routes and points of interests – it won't be every stop, just the key ones.'
