Alderney nurse Annemarie Horn applied for the award to enable her to add a minor injuries module to her BSc course in nursing studies.

MSG consultant orthopaedic surgeon Chris Joslin held a clinic at Alderney's Mignot Memorial Hospital on Friday 17 March and took the opportunity to make the presentation to Mrs Horn while he was there.

Bailiwick chief nurse Professor Juliet Beal was unable to be in Alderney for the presentation of £750, so a video link was arranged to enable her to pass on congratulations.

Mrs Horn, who specialises in care of the elderly, has worked at the Mignot for three years. She worked for nine years in a care home in Guernsey before that.

The judging panel also agreed to make an award to consultant clinical nurse specialist for urology Patricia McDermott, who sought funding to undertake a certificated course in psycho-sexual studies.
