The service has also reported a general rise in emergency calls annually.

The emergency ambulance service attended 484 calls in January, averaging 15.6 per day.

That compares with 420 for the same month last year.

Since the start of 2014, the total number of calls in a 12-month period showed a 10.74% rise over two years, from 4,508 to 4,992.

Jon Beausire, chief officer of the emergency ambulance service, attributed the January rise to seasonal illness and the changing demographics of the local population.
