The drivers' basic pay has risen to £12 an hour and followed negotiations between Unite the Union representatives and management.

CT Plus operations manager Lee Murphy said it was happy that the pay rise could start on the first day of the new contract year.

'We are delighted to be able to get this from day one of the new year.

'We are pleased to be able to offer an above-inflation rate,' he said.

Mr Murphy said that the deal was arranged in November and once this was done it started looking at this year's arrangements.

Unite regional officer Bob Lanning had said he was involved in the talks.

'We tabled an aspiration and this was to reach £12 an hour as a basic rate,' he said. 'And the company gave it to us.'
