In the UK, red list entries for birds have soared to 67 species, including the puffin and others which often come the island, such as the curlew, pictured.

Conservationists have put out an urgent call for action to be taken to help save the species.

La Societe Guernesiaise conservation officer Jamie Hooper said Guernsey was certainly following the same trends as the UK.

'We definitely follow the trends in the UK very closely, most species have seen a decline.

'It can be accelerated locally because some populations start on a very low level,' he said.
