A BARMAN in a Town pub used a customer's debit card to place four online bets while she and her husband were eating a meal in the bar.

The offence came to light after the woman's customer's account went overdrawn following payments totalling £580 and police enquiries led them to Shannon Jones.

Jones, 22, of Atholl, Saltpans, St Sampson's, admitted four counts of fraud, plus two drug offences, in the Magistrate's Court, where he was jailed for a total of eight months.

Prosecuting Advocate Rory Calderwood told the court how the complainant and her husband had gone to The White Hart public house at about noon on 24 September.

She left her debit card behind the bar when ordering food, in-line with bar procedures.

When the couple left the bar at about 2.30pm the woman paid the bill and her card was returned to her.

Soon after, her account went overdrawn and she noticed four payments to Sky Bet, which had taken place while she was in the bar.
