Work started yesterday and the shop, which is closed, had been emptied prior to this.

Caroline Edwards and Josie Vialli are managers of the shop.

Miss Edwards said that some of the flooring was quite damaged and needed replacing.

'We are also painting and having new fixtures and fittings, which is quite exciting.

'We are rearranging the shop. There will be a new layout and when we have our reopening on 15 May, it will be all designer stock.'

She said the shop was always busy and that now was the time for the refurbishment.

The shop will reopen on Monday at 9am and it will be open from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday.
