A lorry driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving after an incident in Brixton in which a 99-year-old woman died

A 99-year-old woman who died after being hit by a lorry has been named as Monique Khalgui.

Police and paramedics were called to Stockwell Park Walk, Brixton, at 11.35am on November 27 following reports that a vehicle had hit a pedestrian near the junction with Brixton Road.

Ms Khalgui, of Stockwell Park Road, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the lorry driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He has been bailed until a date in January.

An inquest into the death has been opened at Southwark Coroner's Court.

Det Sgt Jeff Edwards, who is leading the investigation, said: "I am grateful for a number of people who stopped at the scene to assist.

"This stretch of road was busy with commuters at that time and I would urge anyone who may have seen any of the parties in the moments leading up to the collision, or the collision itself, to contact police."
