'Give up your dog or move out'

A COUPLE have been told they will face eviction from their States house unless they give up their puppy.

Because 19-week-old Coco, a Staffordshire bull terrier, is not on the Housing Department's list of acceptable breeds, her owners have been told she is unable to remain in States accommodation.

When Sabrina and Leon Lomax, pictured, bought Coco they were told she was a boxer- Labrador cross, which would have been permitted, but a recent visit to the vet proved otherwise.

Now Mr Lomax, 29, has moved out with the puppy into private accommodation.

Mrs Lomax, 33, said that after several miscarriages, the puppy had been their 'little blessing'.

'Leon and I have been together for four years and for the last two years, we have been trying for a child together which has been unsuccessful and also resulted in three miscarriages, and our next best option rather than having a child of our own was to get a puppy.

'Leon found her on pets4homes advertised as a boxer-Lab cross. We paid a deposit for her and Leon travelled on Condor to collect her on 23 December. I applied for permission from States Housing and it was approved on 18 December. We then registered her at Les Eturs vets. Things were perfect.'

Earlier this month Mrs Lomax received a phone call from the Housing Department, which wanted to confirm Coco's breed.

'Leon took her to the vets the next working day to get an honest opinion. The vet now believes she is a Staffie cross.
