Regional titles for GVC juniors

THREE of Guernsey's top young cyclists excelled at the recent national GHS regional schools final in Dorset.

On an undulating 10.1-mile time-trial course, Sophie Dorey and Alex van Katwyk both won their age categories, while Danny Alderton, pictured, completed a third-place finish.

It was van Katwyk's debut UK event, but he was first off and took no time at all to get into full flow, posting a time of 26min. 35sec., beating his personal best by more than two minutes, enough to win the 12-and-under class by a staggering seven minutes.

Dorey was up next, also winning her class and securing the title as fastest female by a similar margin to van Katwyk, posting a finishing time of 26-19.
